Mr. Sullivan attended the University of Maine on a Naval Reserve Officers’ Training Program scholarship, and graduated in 1989, with a BA in German and a BA in International Affairs-Political Science. After graduating from college and completing initial military training, he reported in 1990 to USS KAUFFMAN (FFG-59) as a Surface Warfare Officer, serving in the Red Sea and Persian Gulf during Operation Desert Storm. Mr. Sullivan detached from USS KAUFFMAN in July 1992 to begin law school under a military scholarship program. Mr. Sullivan received his law degree from Boston College Law School in May 1995. Following law school, as a Judge Advocate in the U.S. Navy, Mr. Sullivan concentrated his practice as a criminal defense attorney, representing service members before Courts-Martial jury trials and before Administrative Discharge Boards. Mr. Sullivan has been with Sloane and Walsh since completing his obligated active duty service in September 2001. He remains affiliated with the Navy reserves, and holds a commission as a Commander in the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps. In that capacity he is attached to the Defense Institute for International Legal Studies, Newport RI, where he is an instructor in international law, lecturing international students on military operational law topics, including the United Nations Law of the Sea Convention, piracy, and peacekeeping operations. |
